Alternative Photography: Cyanotype and Van Dyke Brown Processes

Embark on a journey into the captivating world of camera-less photography with our workshop, “Alternative Photography: Cyanotype and Van Dyke Brown.” Discover the historic art of creating one-of-a-kind prints using Cyanotype and Van Dyke Brown printing techniques. Developed in 1842 by John Herschel, these contact printing processes involve exposing photosensitized paper or fabric to the sun or UV light, resulting in mesmerizing, unique prints.

Experience the magic of alternative photography as you delve into Cyanotype and Van Dyke Brown printing. Kelsey Giroux of ArtfulImpact, your guide, will lead you through the hands-on process of brushing photosensitive emulsion onto paper, creating prints with distinctive cyan-blue hues (Cyanotype) and rich brown tones (Van Dyke Brown). Participants will be able to play around with up to four digital images for printing, and Kelsey will prepare the negatives in advance for the workshop.
